Pietramelina 1    -  completed 2024

This is the main building of an old farmhouse complex situated on the very top of a hill in Umbria, at 600m ASL, overlooking Perugia and the Tiber Valley. The building was almost a ruin, being abandoned for many years, and the clients wanted to keep it as much as possible as it was, without major changes to its rural appearance. The ground floor was a large stable for cows and it's now a bright, open plan living-dining-kitchen with a new sleek steel&oak staircase leading up to the three bedrooms with en-suite bathrooms upstairs. The floors and roof have been rebuilt in the traditional way, using timber and terracotta pianelle, and big arches in reclaimed bricks have been erected by our skilled masons.  New grey windows and grey floors contribute to the modern feel of this otherwise ancient building, in the continuous dialogue between vernacular architecture and comfortable modern living.  Photovoltaic panels, heat pump and underfloor heating provide energy efficiency and sustainability.
