Restoration Montecastro

Restoration Montecastro    -  completed 2013

Restoration means respect for the original architectural elements but also involves structural consolidation (Umbria is a seismic region) and often extensions, in order to provide modern living comforts to these beautiful stone houses. Where farmers are constantly abandoning the rural areas and its buildings, new residents contribute to keep the countryside alive. This large house, restored in 2011, looked more like a borgo rather than just a farmhouse  and it was extended with the creation of a new loggia to echo the existing one on the other side. Traditional materials and techniques have been used for the reconstruction of roof and floors (chestnut beams and rafters with terracotta pianelle and wooden planks). To maximize the light we used metal windows which have a thinner frame compared to wood or aluminium.
